Usually overcrowded, the ground floor bar in this pub is rarely worth the effort in our opinion, unless you like sharp elbows or are looking for a fight. But the first floor room is a welcome and surprising exception and worth seeking out - when it's open. We've been in the upstairs bar when it's been practically deserted and the ground floor has had lager louts spilling into Charing Cross road. When it's open, it's a welcome refuge from the insane crowds around Leicester Square and Covent Garden. It's got a fairly average selection of drink and pub grub, but the beer's usually well-kept. All in all, it's still a prime place to meet someone with its close proximity to Leicester Square tube, but not a place we'd recommend that you linger if you can't get into the upper bar.

How to find the Brewmaster pub

The Covent Garden exit from Leicester Square tube lets you out in Charing Cross Road across from the Hippodrome. If you turn right and go around the corner the door is practically the first thing you come to. If you come out by the Hippodrome (Leicester Square exit) cross the road into the street next to the other tube exit and it's just on the right.
