Another pub in this area we've known for a few years now, the Gunmakers hasn't taken the nosedive a lot of pubs in its situation has - if anything, it's been consistently good since it opened. Hidden down a side road off the top of Leather Lane Market, this is a bit of a gem and, despite the local designer bars, hasn't given in to the trends to be a.n.other style bar - and it's worth the deviation. It's had recent update and while it looks more gastro in colour, the pub has not changed conceivably. They've still got new and more comfortable banquettes to go with the ornate pub mirrors that make it feel a lot bigger than it actually is. The back room is still stylish and pretty comfortable. There are usually four choices on the taps, ranging from well known brands to guests from all over the country - Adnam's Lighthouse, Woodforde's Wherry and Purity's Pale Ale amongst recent ones we can remember - sorry it changes often and we can't keep up! Not open on the weekends, this does cater largely for local workers and yet still manages to retain that local feel. Go, enjoy!

An excellent pub well deserving its five pint status. Welcoming staff, well-kept and interesting beer and super food. The wine list is also very worthy of note as the landlord actually likes the stuff. Unlike a great many (perfectly decent) inner city post-work haunts, the Gunmakers doesn't just have regular customers but a group of locals who know each other and pass the time together. Worth reserving a table for dinner later in the week as it can get busy.

This is a good pub and, perhaps a worthy 4 pints rating but 5 pints? No! Basic unimaginative décor, pricey menu (cod and chips for £12.50) does not warrant 5 pints. Not in my opinion anyway. How then can you justify rating the Harp in Covent Garden (CAMRA national pub of the year) as a 4 pinter? Surely your 5 pints rating must be reserved, exceptionally, for the very best of the best otherwise your ratings are degraded and that is what has happened here. I would be very interested to know your process in determining a top rated pub.

Not sure I'd rate this 5 stars...but it is very well worth a solid 4.

Good selection of beers on offer, bar manager/landlord keen to tell us about them and their origins.

I'm not totally bowled over with the decor, but it was a nice place to spend an hour in this part of London.

Seemed a good range of food on offer, traditional pub fare to more unusual ( Go on, be honest, when did you last have 'Caen style Tripe'?) Cannot comment on quality of food as it wasn't on my agenda at 3pm on a Thursday...at which time the atmosphere was quiet, and the staff friendly and engaging.

Went to this pub tonight with work colleagues and was bitterly dissapointed. Barman 1 was very friendly at first. But when requested Chips from Barman 2 was told they didn't do them. The only thing they do is bags of crisps for £1.20- ridiculously expensive even by London standards! They only had one flavour so he stormed upstairs to get more, spent several minutes rearranging them behind the bar before finally throwing a pack in my direction. When we saw that chips were in fact on the menu but with fish, I asked Barman 1 who was clearing the table whether there was anyway to get a bowl of them. I was told 'Absolutely not' before finally getting the explanation that they only cut the right amount for the meals on the menus.

The lack of chips, while ludicrous in a pub, wasn't the problem. The problem was the rubbish attitude problem, hissy fits and general rudeness of the bar staff. Really unhelpful and overpriced.

Excellent little pub. Nice atmosphere and as stated below, the barmaid is absolutely brilliant. The type of barmaid that many drinkers could fall in lust with because of her looks, charm, wit and wisdom. I fell in love!

One of the better pubs in area awash with good pubs. Excellent beer served by a publican who knows what he's doing
