All change at the former Kings Arms, sat halfway down this extremely handsome Georgian street. The pool tables have gone, poker nights have been cancelled and the lurid purple colour scheme has been replaced by a far more sober, muted palette (grey, we seem to recall). Now named after Lady Ottoline, an aristocrat and hostess to the Bloomsbury group, the move upmarket is quite clear. Uniformed staff and table service, an emphasis on food and a serious feel to the place. As a gastropub, though, it falls somewhat flat; the food wasn’t cheap and our Sunday Roast was quite unremarkable for the £15.50 it cost. The black pudding and duck egg starter certainly didn’t need salt ground all over it, either. Still, staff were eager to please and there were a trio of decent ales on tap (Purity and Sambrook’s to name two). It’s still early days here and we’re sure it will become a big hit with affluent local workers, but it was all a little too languid for us to rush back anytime soon.

This pub in its new guise has lost all of its character. Whoever has made these changes should hang their head in shame! Either revert back to a proper pub or turn it into flats. Lady Ottoline.....what a load of old cobblers!
